Indio Maiz National Reserve

Indio Maiz National Reserve

Considered one of the best preserved natural reserves in Nicaragua. The area is located in the southeast corner of the country, bordering the San Juan River and is home to a wide variety of rainforest animals.

Nicaragua is located between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea and is a Central American nation known for its dramatic terrain of lakes, volcanoes and beaches. Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America. Martins World Travel recommend this beautiful location for avid naturalists, birders, fisherman, hikers, coffee lovers and any traveller in search of surprises.

The lowland and coastal regions are tropical with the rainy season from May to October and the dry season November to April. Eastern Nicaragua is hot and humid with lush vegetation. Huge Lake Managua and the iconic stratovolcano Momotombo sit north of the capital Managua. To its south is Granada, noted for its Spanish colonial architecture and archipelago of islets most popular with bird watchers. Spanish is the official language and is spoken by the vast majority of Nicaraguans. English and indigenous languages are used along the Caribbean coast.
