Located at an elevation of 2,850m in the Andean foothills, Quito, the capital, is known for its intact Spanish colonial centre with decorated 16th- and 17th-century palaces and churches including the ornate Compañía de Jesús cathedral.

Ecuador is both the gateway to the Enchanted Isles of the Galapagos and also a most worthy destination in itself. The capital Quito has immense character, superb hotels, great restaurants and shops. It is friendly, vibrant and is well worth exploring.
