Getting to Ireland - The car ferries sail several times a day from the ports of Pembroke, Fishguard, Holyhead, Liverpool (Birkenhead) and the southern ports of Scotland - they remain the most popular because you can simply load the car with everything and head off. Stena Line have the widest choice of routes, sailing from Holyhead, Fishguard, and Cairnryan, with a variety of conventional ferries. Alternatively travel from Liverpool (Birkenhead) and Belfast on huge vessels that carry a mix of freight and car passengers. En-suite cabins are included in the cost on night crossings.

Start your journey in Dublin or Belfast and head for the Causeway Coast and Glens, an area of outstanding natural beauty, cliff top castles, stunning beaches and The Giants Causeway. Pretty villages include Cushenden, Cushendall, Bushmills and Portballintrae. Head west to the city of Derry for culture and history in addition to fine restaurants and busy bars. The country and coast of County Donegal draw you further west to Ireland’s north Atlantic Coast. Donegal City is a fine place to stay. Head back to Belfast or Dublin for a night or more before taking the ferry home.
Ireland’s West & Connemara… Duration 6 to 9 nights. Start in Dublin or Belfast overnight at Donegal. Take the coastal drive via Sligo to Ballina. Drive to Galway City and explore Connemara Countryside. Time permitting head to Ennis for a two night stay and visit the Cliffs of Moher. South West Ireland.. Duration 6 to 8 nights. Drive from Dublin to Ennis and stay two nights, visiting The Burren and the Cliffs of Moher on Ireland’s wild Atlantic Coast. Head south and west via Limerick to Killarney. Allow time to explore the beautiful and wild moorland, lakes and coast.
Take in the Dingle Peninsular, stunning beaches, bays and rocky outcrops in addition to great music and sea food. Counties Clare, Kerry and Cork.. Duration 6 nights or more. Rugged countryside, historic monuments, rocky outcrops and beautiful beaches. Authentic pub musicians and good food. The Burren and Cliffs of Moher are a must in addition to the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsular. Historic inland towns steeped in history include Athlone, Kilkenny, Portlaoise and Carrick are well worth a night.. time permitting. Ireland’s Cities… Duration 4 nights or more.
Irelands cities are full of character, vibrant and friendly with lots to see and do. Good value hotels are on offer in Dublin, Galway, Limerick and Cork.
Taking your pet dog to Ireland
You can take your dog to Ireland without it entering quarantine so long as the following rules are observed:
1 - Your pet has been microchipped.
2 - It has a valid rabies vaccination, which must be given after the microchip is inserted. The rabies vaccination must be given 21 days before your trip. A rabies vaccination with a 1 or 3 year validity period is acceptable for entry into Ireland.
3 - Your pet has a valid EU pet passport or EU health certificate
4 - Your pet has had a tapeworm treatment which must be administered by a vet, no more that 5 days before the scheduled arrival time.
5 - Pets can enter through any port and are subject to spot checks. If you have not followed these rules it may be refused entry or placed into quarantine at the owner's expense.
