Out of the seven islands in the Canaries, Tenerife, Gran Canary, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote provide a great year-round climate with long sunny days and warm evenings - ideal for a well-deserved winter break to escape the cold damp UK winter months. In the main tourist resorts, there are 4,800 daylight hours a year, which means that the Canary Islands have the most daylight hours of anywhere in Europe! We've provided some brief descriptions below but recommend you call us for help and advice on the best places to stay.
Tenerife
The largest of the islands with its sometimes snow-capped volcano and a good selection of beach resorts on the south of the island where the sun shines the most. An excellent selection of apartments and resort hotels with standards to suit all tastes and budgets. All are located a short transfer from the main airport. Hire a car for a few days and explored the islands southern coast and venture up to the higher altitudes of Mount Teide for great views.
Gran Canaria
236km of coastline and almost 60 km of sandy beaches all bathed in gentle sunshine that fills one with energy. A World Biosphere Reserve with its volcanic landscapes, Macaronesian flora and extensive pine forests make this island worthy of this honour from UNESCO. The Dunes at Maspalomas, moulded by the wind, change their appearance every day and are a must attraction. Choose from popular large beach resorts with every amenity to charming coastal villages like Puerto Mogan.
Lanzarote
A rugged island with beaches lapped by warm and gin-clear waters. Small and friendly resorts that are used to welcoming guests back year after year. Whitewashed houses and beautiful beaches Lanzarote has the most unique landscape of all the islands and renowned Timanfaya National Park with its rocky terrain created and sculptured by volcanic eruptions from the 1730s.
Fuerteventura
Over 150km of magnificent beaches on this the second largest of the Canary Islands. Bask in the sunshine and enjoy a pleasing sea breeze. Discover the island cheeseries and try one of the Designations of Origin Majorero cheeses. Immense volcanic landscapes and pristine beaches earned the entire island the honour of UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve status in 2009. Explore the emerald green crystal clear waters or relax on glorious white sandy beaches.
